Infection in gum - extraction but no antibiotics?!

Question: My dentist took out a tooth of mine, it was in pretty bad shape, had a root canal on it 10 years ago and it was cracked and what no. She told me there was an infection in my gum, but didnt prescribe me any antibiotics - is this right?
I had it taken out on the 29/3 its now the 2/4, my jaws still achy which i would assume is normal. Ive spoken to a few people and they were under the impression that you should be on antibiotics before they extract anything if you have an infection or at least afterwards

When removing teeth, It is perfectly ok to take them out without prescribing antibiotics, before or after the treatment, even if there is infection there. (there are a couple of exceptions to this rule)

Basically, your body's immune system, can normally kill the infection by itself. However, the infection in your gum is coming from inside your tooth, and your immune system can not reach inside your tooth to kill it. Therefore, your tooth gets turned into an infection factory and your body can't keep up.

The best way to stop this problem is to remove the infection factory (your tooth) your body can then kill any remaining bacteria (infection) by it self.

Sometimes you do need some antibiotics if its not healing and you are getting extreme pain (dry socket) but normally 4 days after if the pain is manageable then it may be just normal tenderness associated with healing.

If its really sore then yes go back to see your dentist and they will get you out of pain no problems.

I had an infected gum near my wizdom and had to have anitbiotics first they wouldnt take the tooth untill the infection was gone.

If i were you i think id go see your doctor & ask him but yes i do think you should be on antibiotics your dr can give them 2 you .You dont want a worse infection.
