Im 28 and have alot of bone loss on my top front 4 teeth, does anyone else?!

Question: my age or younger have a partial denture and what is it like, i am really worried about it and keep having thoughts that it will fall out when im talking to someone or it will feel really uncomfortable or that people will know im wearing one. My boyfriend says not to worry and it will be fine but i cant stop worrying. Any advice or fellow denture wearing comments would be really helpful. Suzi xx

It is esepcially sad when this happens at a young age, but don't worry about it. Dentistry and the making of partial dentures is really quite expert these days, and tooth size, shape and colour matching is almost faultless.

I lost some teeth in the front lower and upper jaw whilst still quite young through bone loss and was similarly worried, but it was very well done, and the partial dentures went in the second the old teeth came out.

Admittedly it was a little uncomfortable at first (partly due to the surgery and partly because of the strange objects in an unusual position in the mouth), but it really wasn't long before I was completely 'aclimatised' to them. I have since had new ones made with a couple of additional rear teeth, and though the top plate is a bit larger and covers the greater part of the roof of my mouth, they are completely dependable in every way.

They absolutely never slip, do not move or become loose, and I can eat anything I could before, including hard apples and very crusty bread!

One small niggle, and I can't get around this at all, very occasionally during a meal, a small pip or other hard piece of food will get under the lower denture, and this can cause a bit of discomfort. However, it only takes a few seconds to excuse yourself to the bathroom and deal with it, No one knows that you haven't simply popped out for a quick pee, haha.

Of course it will always take a little while to get used to something like this, and you convince yourself that people will be able to tell, but with modern techniques, I can assure you it is simply not possible to tell the difference even when peering at the teeth quite closely.

Hope it all works out for you, and don't be afraid to take part in the selection of the right shade of 'enamel' and to ask exactly how they will fit, what shape and colour any replacement 'gum' might be, and the size your particular partial denture will be, including how much of the soft palate it will cover etc.

Good luck, it won't be nearly as bad as you think right now!

This happened to my older sister when she was about 29, 30. She has a partial denture as well.

Don't worry about it! Nobody will notice; she didn't tell me until a few days after she got it, and I didn't see a thing.

why not go for fix bridge? I used to have dentures before--but now I got crown which are better cos I dont need to remove them when brushing...

Please Please
look into implants

The bone begins to reabsorb into the jaw with nothing there to hold
As time goes by the bone will disappear
and the partial will constantly have to be refitted ,also the stress on other teeth and the movement into the space will be a factor.

The sooner you get implants the better happier and more stable you will be

An implants cost can be less than the ongoing effects of a partial, and the confidence and prevention of bone loss PRICELESS

Hello Suzi,
Tell you what, I have created hundreds and hundreds of partial dentures replacing everything from 1 tooth to 12 and there is absolutely no reason for you not to have a partial that looks totally natural. Well designed partials not only look great they fit great. Would tell you this though, what you want is a partial the has a "metal" frame with plastic gum section and "if" possible Porcelain teeth, tell the DDS you want "IPN" teeth. Composite teeth are OK ,but "if" there is room porcelain looks a bit better, even though you can't really tell one from the other until the Composite begins to wear after five or six years....You "Do Not" want an "all" plastic partial..Tell your DDS you think the metal should probably be a "Horseshoe Bar" design with "Crib" Clasps between the 2nd Bi Cuspid and 1st Molar on each side. Plus "Lingual" Rest's" on the Cuspids. While this would normally be a design that would work for 98% of the cases your's may be slightly different but at least your DDS will know you want it done right...Also...if the partial is to be what is called an "Immediate", meaning it will be put in at the same time the teeth are extracted, you want the price to include relines (refitting) as you heal. Good luck and I wish you well.

u prob wont qualify for implants if u have bone loss. u will need a bone graphting. but yea, ur pretty young. id go with the implant. very permanent.
