Problem With Retainers?!

Question: Ok, so my question has to do with options as far as retainers are concerned. I have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth and so far they have stayed in position. I have a retainer that I was told I'd have to wear for the rest of my life 24/7 for the top teeth. However, this retainer hinders my speech. I was a music major in college and was unable to wear my retainer as directed. I'm now looking into teaching and I can't wear something that gives me a speech impediment. My teeth have moved a little since the braces were off and I'd hate to lose what I have now. What options do I have so that I can get rid of a retainer that leaves me with a wicked lisp? Anything permanent or less impeding?

Try an "Essix retainer." It's almost like an invisalign tray - if you've heard about it. I'm attaching a link with a picture of one. You just stick them on your upper teeth. I have one and I don't see any big difference than the normal retainer. They are less expensive, don't stick to the top of your mouth, and when wearing them, people can hardly see them.

Hope this helps!

wear your retainer at night every night youll be used to sleeping in it after awhile

well hello music major, i think that u should get the essix retainer because its not like the wire retainer at all! u will still have a small lisp but it goes away in about a day! u wont have to keep takeing them off. but when ur practicing, i would suggest u take them off.
