I noticed my daughters front tooth is slightly gray...anything I can do about it!

Question: Already made dental appointment, but the soonest I can get her in around here is mid May.

Answers: Already made dental appointment, but the soonest I can get her in around here is mid May.

The tooth is gray due to the iron content in the busted blood vessels inside the tooth - it won't go away on it's own.

Even though it's "only" a baby tooth, it's important to follow up on as the permanent tooth that is developing behind it could be affected if an infection remains in the area.

Call the dentist office back and tell them she is having discomfort. Booking six weeks out for emergency-type situations is a terrible way to handle patients! I've worked in the dental field for 12 years and when someone calls with a child in pain we move mountains to see them the same day....

being so young just have her brush and floss and maybe you get the kiddie mouthwash and try that until you can get her into the dentist

When the tooth turns grey sometimes it can mean the tooth is dead....there's nothing you can really do at home for it ....just wait for the dental appointment.

The tooth may be dead... or in the case of a 3 1/2 year old I would guess that she probably hit her mouth (and may not even remember it) and caused a little bleeding inside the tooth. If that were the case, the discoloration you see is from the blood. Also, chances are it will fade away.

No, you won't be able to whiten it yourself since the discolouration is INSIDE the tooth. She probably knocked it some time when she fell, causing damage to the nerve. It would be a good idea to take her to the dentist to check for any other damage. If it's not hurting her, it should be okay until her appointment in May. The dentist may decide to leave it alone even though it will be a couple more years until it falls out. Sometimes they will do a pulpotomy (baby root canal) where they take the nerve (pulp) out from the main crown portion of the tooth... but you may not want to put her through that if she is not experiencing any pain from it and the dentist checks everything out okay. But then her tooth will remain grey.

FOR A BABY TOOTH SUCH AS THIS SHE WILL NEED A PULPOTOMY, BABY ROOT CANAL, OR EXTRACTION. THE NERVE INSIDE HAD DIED AND THAT'S WHY THE TOOTH IS GRAY.
