Dentists and how to get specific treatment?!

Question: Just seen a question that reminded me of one I needed to ask.

In the UK does anybody know what requirements you need to be viable for hospital dentistry, specifically to be put to sleep during treatment. I am hugely needle phobic and dentist phobic. The fact that most of the ones in my area can't talk english well doesnt help for some reason, maybe because I can't tell what he's saying, it puts me on edge. I have two gaping holes in each of the two main teeth you chew with on each side of my lower jaw and I need them sorting out but I am absolutely terrified to go to the dentist. I have heard you can go to hospital and get put to sleep but only in certain circumstances, does anyone know what these are? (By the way I am on the NHS).

If you request it, it can be done, provided you are healthy and dont have any major medical or heart problems and if your NHS covers it, then it should be fine you can go and have it done.
