Are my wisdom teeth gonna be removed?!

Question:

Are my wisdom teeth gonna be removed?

i have had braces for the last 2 years and im gonna get them off this summer but i have heard stories of people getting their wisdom teeth removed but mine had started to emerge at an earlier age (the bottom 2) while i had my braces...so would i have to get them pulled out? i havent experienced any pain while they were growing except the itchy sensation and the need to bite down on those teeth (which doesnt seem to bother me

please give me answers!
thnks in advance

Answers:

If you have braces now, when they are removed the orthodontist will take a panoramic xray (you stand in the machine and it goes around your head - you've already had one prior to the braces). That xray will help the orthodontist and your regular dentist make that decision. There are different schools of thought on wisdom teeth - one says they will move your other teeth and the other says that they won't. Good news for you is if your wisdoms are already emerging they will probably be easier to remove. Not everyone needs them removed, but I can tell you as a dental hygienist that they can cause some pretty ugly gum infections and often end up with cavities because you can't clean them very well. Usually the upper wisdoms are easy to remove because of their ice cream cone shaped roots. Good luck!

PS. I had 5 teeth out (3 wisdoms, 2 premolars) while awake numb with gas to relax and went home feeling fine. I also didn't have any swelling or bruising. So don't believe every horror story you hear!
