Having teeth Pulled Out?!

Question:

Having teeth Pulled Out?

I'm 19 years old, and have just been told that I have to have a tooth pulled out in July. I(Top right molar next to my wisdom tooth) I've never been good with dentists, so naturally I'm terified! Is there anyone who's had a normal molar taken out who can help me? How do they do it? Does it hurt and can you feel it being taken out? It's not so much the pain I'm scared of, and I don't mind having the injection, I'm just worried I'll be able to feel it. What does it feel like? I'm very nervous!

The reason I'm having it pulled is because I had a filling done but it wasn't done properly. The tooth carried on decaying under the filling and consequently hit the nerve. The other option is having a full root canal followed by a crown and then a possibility of more work every 4 or so years. I've been told it would be less painful and cheaper to have it removed!

Answers:

I have never had one removed myself, but I observed many hours in dental clinic. They will give you a topical anethetic to numb the area, then inject the local anesthetic (derivative of novacaine). After that, you shouldn't feel too much unless it is infected. If infected, they may have to give you antibiotics first and then try again later. If not though, you should just feel pressure and pulling, not pain. If you feel pain, you need to tell him/her because they will stop and give you more anesthetic. You will be FINE. It isn't like it used to be. It may bleed for a little while and you may have to take some mild pain relievers for a day after the pull. It is NOTHING to be nervous about. Many people say "it's already out?" because they didn't feel much of anything. Good luck. You will feel much better when it's over.
