$1800+ for a cleaning!??!?!

Question: so i went to the dentist today for a checkup and he said i had calculus build up and needed a"special cleaning" and get 6 of my teeth sealed ($60 x 6 teeth). the total cost would be $1860.

i dont know if this is true or if i can get this "special" cleaning done elsewhere for cheaper. is this cleaning really this expensive to remove calculus or is he ripping me off?

what's so different about this cleaning that it HAS to cost so damn much? my appt isin three weeks and i would like to know before i am forced to shove the money over to him.

very kind and friendly office i might add tho. ill give them that.

The price you got quoted is about normal for the work that is going to be done. I know they are pricey but not much you can do about it. Unless however you want to try going to a dental school. You can get the cleaning done there for about half the price a regular dental office would charge.Regular flossing and brushing is much cheaper.

i would never pay that for a cleaning. you should get a new dentist.

That sounds pretty high. I can understand the sealing of the teeth, and that cost, but that leaves $1500 for a cleaning.

You must have a horrendous case. Ask him what the "special cleaning" involves--planing, scaling, and/or debridement. All of those are labor-intensive and require special skills.

Do you need the cleaning where they go under the gumline? Planing? That is different than a regular cleaning but it still sounds too high.

I work for the Nation's #1 Health Discount Service. I checked and with one of our plans you can get sealants for anywhere from $28 - $22 depending on where you live. You can contact me at bgilbert@ameriplan.net and I would be more than happy to give you some more information on it.
