Can I believe my Dentist?!
Question:
Can I believe my Dentist?
Hi All, I recently went to my Dentist to have some metal fillings replaced.
I was expecting to have 3 fillings done for $700.00.
Needle, Needle, Drill, Drill, and then Surprise!
I received a temporary filling because now I supposedly need my Wisdom tooth removed and Root Canal Therapy on the neighbouring molar (which was the original filling)!
So, I didn't have any teeth problems before I went to the Dentist and now I need a Wisdom tooth removed and Root Canal Therapy?
It's not like I can shove my eyeballs inside my mouth and have a look around. So, do I just have to believe?
All the search engines just tell me that Root Canal Therapy is a dental process, blah, blah.
I'd appreciate knowing of other peoples experiences and suggestions on how to confirm the Dentist's assessment.
Thanks,
Rod
Answers:
First of all, if your amalgam filling were not causing problems, the dentist should never have removed them. This is a cash grab. He has to remove more of your natural tooth to put the composite resin fillings in, which is not a great decision.
If your wisdom tooth was impacted or was shifting your other teeth or getting infected, than it should come out.
Get a sdecond opinion on your root canal. This dentist seems to only want more money, hence the reason he removed your amalgams.
Did he take any x-rays? If he did, have him duplicate them and have them sent to another dentist, perferably a periodontist or other root canal specialist, to make sure he's not in it for the moeny. If he's not willing to explain your radiographs to you and show you the problem, or he's unwilling to send them for a second opinion, there's your answer.
If something sounds too fishy, get a second opinion. YOU ALWAYS HAVE RIGHT TO REFUSE TREATMENT.
