What do you do with the wax strips, when you get braces?!

Question: You know those wax, strip, cylinder things you get when you have braces put on? (I just got mine put on yesterday, sucks!) What exactly do you do with them? I'd most likely make a mess of things and get wax everywhere in my mouth. And no, my Ortho did not give me any previous guidlines with this.

Heart of gold is correct, you pinch off a small piece and press it over the "dry" area of a bracket or band that is irritating the tissue. Some patient use the wax while others don't. My advice is not to use it so your tissue will toughen up and become use to the braces, other wise you will always need to use it. Don't press or rub your lips or cheeks against your teeth or the orthodontics, this will create sore areas. Use some really warm salt water rinses to soothe and toughen up your tissue. Good luck with your ortho and you will feel and smile much better soon!

um....ur not supposed to put the wax in ur mouth evry second, when like wire stick out, or those sharp pointy hooks always hurt you a lot! u put a little piece of the wax and stick it on it so it doesn't hurt anymore

i had braces... and all of my siblings had braces and my orthodontist said that u were supposed to take off a little chunk of the wax and put it on the brackets that were poking u and causing u pain and cutting up ur mouth (i had a lot of those!) and then u take it off and if u do that a lot ( like everyday) i think its supposed to soften up the corners of the brackets or somthing....all i know is that i worked for me! lol =)

The wax strips are to use if some part of the braces starts to irritate your lips or the inside of your mouth. You take just enough wax to cover the part that is rubbing you wrong and mash it over the sharp or irritating area. This will allow the lip or mouth area that is irritated to heal and get a little tougher.

Some folks never need the wax, but most do. It can be tricky to put on though! If you need to, you can have a friend or family member help you.

chuck it in the bin... its duznt work!

you tear off a small piece (just enough to cover a bracket ) and roll it into a ball then mash it onto what ever bracket is bothering you. I also liked to chew on it like gum as I was a gum chewer and as you know if you got braces you cant chew gum.
