Is novocaine needed?!

Question: i have a temp. crown on one of my back teeth, so when i go back to the dentist to get the permanent one on, do i have to get novocaine? i'm just worried cuz i also have to get a filling on that day on the other side of my mouth and i don't want my whole mouth to get numb.

9 out of 10 times it is not necessary for me to numb up the tooth to have a temporary crown removed and the new one put on.

In fact, I would prefer to have the patient not numb at this visit because I can better check the "bite" if the tooth is not numb.

It is much easier to see if the crown is slightly too tall and make any needed adjsutments to it.

However, if it is extra sensitive once the temp crown is removed, a little anesthetic can make it more pleasant.

Just let your dentist know of your preference before the appointment and I'm sure it will be fine!

ASK THE DENTIST IF ANESTHETIC IS REALLY NEEDED FOR THE PERMANENT OR JUST TOPICAL GEL?

If you have had a root canal in that tooth, then it would be unneccesary to have it numbed, because the root and feeling in that tooth is dead. The temp. crown should easily come out and the new crown go in with no drilling on your tooth.

no, you should not need a shot. If your having problems with it and you end up needing more work, like a root canal, than you will get one.
