Cracked tooth, but no pain?!

Question:

Cracked tooth, but no pain?

my very back left tooth has a big crack horizontally across the side that seems as deep as halfway into the tooth. The odd thing is there's no pain at all. I'm wondering if its alright to just leave it alone and not worry or would I have to go to the dentist? I haven't been to the dentist since I left home 3 years ago, so I don't know how much a visit would cost?

Answers:

I had the same thing happen to me about 3 years ago. I left it alone. A few months ago, while eating a sandwich, I thought I had bitten into a piece of glass. It turned out to a large portion of my tooth. Because of the way it broke, I could not have a root canal and had to have it extracted. The dentist told me had I gone to see him when it first cracked, it would have been very simple and cheap to fix. (usually it can be fixed for less then $100) Now I have spent almost $2000 on restorative work. The moral of the story is, take care of the tooth now before your teeth end up BITING YOU in the @$$.
