Pain after apicoectomies??!

Question:

Pain after apicoectomies??

I had apicoectomies on my two front teeth last Friday (6 days ago). The teeth that were worked on are feeling SO much better (thank goodness!). But...one of the adjacent teeth is really bothering me. I had considerable swelling, and it hasn't disappeared yet. Where the swelling is the worst, is above the live tooth that is now paining me. It's mostly a feeling of intense pressure with moderate sensitivity, and mildish pain. Is this normal...or to be expected, anyway? Should I be concerned? The swelling is definitely going down as the days go on all be it slowly. What concerns me, is that this particular pain didn't start until a few days after my surgery. It seemed as if it appeared only after the major swelling disappeared. Any insight?

Answers:

You know you had a real bad situation to have had to do apicoectomies. Your swelling and your description of the pain is absolutely normal. And as new fibers fill in and coil the sensations will change again. The good news is that it is not too bad. Be sure to keep your recall appointments. Some bad things can occur that you will not feel. The good thing is that the procedure works for the long term.
