Temporary filling. store bought refill stuff.?!

Question: It's on a root canaled molor...
The dentist put cotton in and a temp fill. (don't remebr if it was dry or not..
I was told to dry it out, then put the fill..
The instructions say, to leave it moist..
NOTE:: the onstructions are based on a cavity fill not a open socket/canal fill..

And obviously all say to clean it out...
but how shall I go about filling it?... Also I have regular cotton balls,, how shall i sterilize them if i need to put cotton in the socket..

By now, don't worry about sterilizing the cotton. Enough saliva got in there that sterility won't matter.

No matter what the instructions say, dry the hole out a bit with cotton, put a little piece of cotton in there to keep the stuff from jamming up the canals, and then put some of the temp material into your tooth. Bite down to squish it into place and trim away any excess. Do this a couple of times to be sure that you are not leaving the filling too high or it will hurt once the stuff hardens and you bite down on it.

Since you are in the middle of a root canal treament, I know that I don't have to say, "See your dentist as soon as possible," do I?

you need to have a PERMANENT filling as soon as possible

otherwise the bacteria in your mouth (we all have bacteria) will (re)contaminate the root canal space and you might need to to have it (re)disinfected with a root canal REtreatment

also, if for whatever reason, you cannot have a permanent filling soon, the temp filling should seal the access cavity VERY WE:LL to prevent the potential problem (contamination) I described above

short answer: see a dentist ASAP for a permanent filling (and maybe crown) or for a new temporary filling if you cannot have a perm on
