I got hit in the mouth with a baseball bat and broke 3\4 of the tooth off what !

Question:

I got hit in the mouth with a baseball bat and broke 3\4 of the tooth off what will they do to fix it?

Answers:

A really good dentist will rebuild the tooth either with a crown or bonding and the tooth will look natural and beautiful.

This may not be the only surgery necessary---it depends on how close to the nerve the break is or if the doctor needs to install a post for added strength--- If so, they will also need to treat the root (meaning remove it by doing a root canal) Then they will install a post and core build up for strength and finally install the crown.

If you go to a CEREC doctor and the CEREC doctor also knows how to do the root canal---he/she can do all of these procedures in one visit?

Otherwise the crown portion of your treatment will be in 2 visits and the crown is manufactured by a lab technician either at the dental office or off site and in approx. 2 weeks later the permanent crown would be installed. In the mean-time you would have a plastic temporary tooth while the crown is being made.

NOW---sometimes they can bond the 3/4 pc. That is missing with a plastic resin that matches your natural tooth color BUT this isn't usually a long term solution AND is not always an option for people in your predicament. IF this is something that they can do for your smile---make sure that the dentist has had experience with cosmetic dentistry and bonding.

PLEASE DO NOT LET THEM EXTRACT YOUR TOOTH---THIS IS OLD STYLE DENTISTRY--- a BIG NO-NO----unless the tooth root is fractured or Mobil, you have super short roots and heavy bone loss in that area to not support the loose tooth---then the dentist should have very little reason to pull your tooth. PLEASE be wary of any doc that goes straight to that conclusion---and if so---get a 2nd opinion.

I hope that you are not in that percent that you would need your broken tooth extracted.

I have seen front teeth that were broken to the gum line that were completely restored to new--AND looking gorgeous--- without having to extract them. There are talented cosmetic dentist that can totally work with your smile to save the tooth.

Good luck---so sorry to hear you were injured.
--Sincerely, Tina
