Sonicare Elite 7500 Question?!

Question: How the hell do I control the speed?? I turn the tooth brush on, and it's at full speed. Then, I press the button with the arrows, and as soon as I press it, it slows down for like a second, and that's it. Is there a way I can lower the speed for a good amount of time or what?

need to turn it on after you put it in your mouth. I don't use one but I am a dental hygienist.
