Will anything happen with my teeth if I wear my retainer for only 18 hours a day!

Question: I just got my retainer today. What will happen if I don't ever wear it at school, but put it on right after school?

It mostly depends on the person and how long they've had their braces off. Since you haven't had yours off very long, it's probably not a great idea, but it likely won't hurt anything as long as you're careful. Try it once, and if they feel too tight when you put them back on, trying wearing them a little more.

You'll find that as time goes by, you're able to leave the retainers off for longer periods of time. How long that time is varies for every person. I can get by just sleeping with mine in, but it has to be at least 6 hours, whereas my sister only puts hers in for an hour everyday. We've both had our braces off for over a year.

Your retainer might feel a little tight but it will get better after a little bit.

It really depends.

Well, it depends. Do you want your teeth to shift back sooner or later?? Your choice, because that's what will happen if you don't wear them all the time. Make sure you're still flossing too to keep clean.

just wear your retainer so your teeth doesn't space apart again

I personally have a retainer, and if i don't wear it only for 18 hours it doesn't have a big difference. As long as you remember to floss and brush your teeth and wear it at least overnight you'll be fine.

School is like for 7 hours a day! Why not just wear it to school? It's not as bad as braces and not embarrassing. If you want to get them fixed sooner, then wear them...if not, don't.

The answer is a resounding "YES"...your teeth will remain exactly where they are supposed to. However, if you have had your braces off for at least two months, you could get by wearing the retainer for 12 hours a day....Sleeping is a good time span and driving to and from work is good, also when your watching TV or just doing nothing in particular....You have a great deal invested in your realignment so don't lose the investment by failing to properly wear the retainer. Good luck and I wish you well.

my dentist told me retainers can be used 12 hours minimum. so 18 hours is still ok.

Ok i ahve one right now i've had it for about 7 months you need to wear it all the time until you are told by your orthadontist TRUST ME I HAVE ONE if you dont it wont work propperly and you will ahve to wear it even longer, your friends will get over it

Good Luck
