Gum Pain, seems like a hard pinch?!

Question:

Gum Pain, seems like a hard pinch?

The left corner of mouth had sever pain about 2days ago without warning, it got really bad the next day and I am dealing with it now. Today is the third day. I had my father check both sides and he could not see any difference at all. It seems to me that the pain is coming from the extreme corner where the jaw meets, every time i touch my gum it feels like a painful pinch or like someone stuck a needle in you. I tried Orajel, it reduced the pain but the discomfort and the all of sudden shoot is still there. When i touch the area with my tongue, I dont feel anything protruding or interfering with my mouth. The gum seems to have a cut, but it is the same on the other side. Has anyone experienced such pinches, problems? Could a throat infectin cause the corner to hurt...
Thank you

I thought wisdom teeth come between the ages of 17-23 and not beyond that...I am 25, awefully late? The pain dies for a few minutes and then acts up again, sometimes i can eat without any effect on that area and some times it goes out again?

If it is the wisdom tooth coming out, it sure is not impacted or straining my other teeth, cause i feel no pain in them. Should i wait for few more days and see(salt water, oragel, etc) so that the gum softens up and teeth is out in the open or is it something i need to get taken care as we speak?

Answers:

Ouch! My opinion is still wisdom teeth despite your age. I have patients that crop up with problems even later than that. If it is a wisdom tooth that is just erupted a tiny bit you could still get an infection in the area from food or bacteria getting lodged. It is possible that you could have a periodontal (gum) type of infection or that a nerve has been irritated. TMJ could be an issue, see the link. I would have it checked out by a dentist over the next couple of days if it doesn't resolve with diligent brushing and rinsing. They will most likely take an xray of the area specific or a panoramic xray that shows all of your teeth to check for wisdom tooth placement.
