Does getting your braces off hurt?!

Question: I heard it does and doesnt. from a lot of people. I her from one person it really hurts, and from another that it just tingles and feels weird. Im getting mine off soon and im excited, yet scared. Im not sure if it will hurt and if it does, is there anything i should take for it? I need someone with experience to help me here. And how long afterwords will I not be sore and can I start eating caramel and chewing bubble gum? will it hurt when I try to eat sticky chewy stuff? and HOW LONG DID YOU WEAR YOUR RETAINER?!?!?!? i dont want to fer the rest of my life but ive heard stories... thank you! ; D

Before you get them off, PLEASE do me a favor (because I forgot to!), put as much chapstick on as possible.. like, MAKE IT REALLY MOIST because the orthodontist will rip your lips apart when taking them out if your lips are dry. And no, they don't hurt when they are out - you just get a funny feeling to constantly lick your teeth because it feels so smooth. It's pretty funny, but the habit get over in a couple days. Ive had braces twice, so I know that it really doesnt hurt as much as when they tighten it. SMILE! =D

you have to wear your retainer. as lame as it will be (i have braces too) we have to wear them, or else your teeth will shift DRAMATICALLY. my neighbor told me she didnt wear it for a couple days, and her teeth started moving just that fast, so just wear it.

well before you go you should just take a pain relief pill, and the thing that hurt the most is when they are grinding the glue off your teeth, its kind of a burning....i cant explain it, its just awful, sorry to say that but it is, but dont worry if you just relax it goes by real fast

i had braces for a long time when i was young cause i didnt do what i was suppose to. It doesnt hurt gettin gthem off...it is actually a relief. I however, still wear my retainer to this day at night due to grinding me teeth in my sleep. I wouldnt chew alotof bubble gum...stick to a regimen that introduces your newly aligned teeth to things like caraamels slowly.... my fave thing to eatwhen i got my braces off was corn on the cob

*No, it doesn't hurt at all to get your braces off.* When I got mine off I was expecting the worst, but it didn't hurt at all. Once you get your braces off you can chew gum whenever you want!!! I was soooo excited to here that. I have retainers now. I have to wear mine for a couple months to a year 24/7 (except for eating obviously... but I count chewing gum as eating.) But then after that you just have to wear them at night. You don't have to wear them for the rest of your life though.
