Chomping teeth while sleeping?!
Question:
Chomping teeth while sleeping?
Why do some people chomp their teeth while sleeping? Can it be harmful, and is there any ways to prevent it?
Answers:
If you are speaking of grinding, most people don't have lasting consequences. Grinding and clenching can cause headaches. You can use a mouth guard (either a sports type or get a custom one from the dentist).
More severe cases can lead to tooth surface loss, root canals, and skull bone infections if the grinding and subsequent damage aren't addressed. Most people do not have this much wear, but if your dentist notices surface loss due to grinding, it's much easier and cheaper to get a mouth guard and not get to the point of needing a mouth restoration.
