Question about temporary crown?!

Question:

Question about temporary crown?

I am supposed to have my temporary crown for 12 more days but today a little piece of the white paste they put to glue it came off (piece at the very base between the crown and the gum), the crown is not loose or anything. I also have been feeling discomfort in my gum, it kind of itches and it's sore if that makes sense, I have been massaging it with my tongue without noticing.

I will talk to my dentist tomorrow morning but I would like to know what you guys think this is and what can I do to help me go through the night without my gum hurting.

Answers:

It sounds like a bit of excess cement has come off. Providing your temporary crown is not loose and you are not experiencing a bad taste you are probably just fine. You gum tissue might be irritated by excess cement or the material that the temporary is made of. Feel free to do salt water rinsing (if you don't have a blood pressure or other issue with increased salt intake) and gently massage the gum with your fingertip. But don't floss or pick at the crown because you will end up at the office having it recemented... Good luck
