Why do I get hungry when I chew gum?!

Question: Does this happen to anyone else? My stomach starts to growl.

Answers: Does this happen to anyone else? My stomach starts to growl.

Chewing gum stimulates the body into thinking it is time to eat or that food is on the way. When the body thinks food is on the way, it begins to produce insulin and could be the reason you feel hungry. The sounds you hear are your stomach and/or bowels emptying in preparation for the meal it believes you are about to eat.

Also, I have heard from several people that stomach gowling, etc while chewing gum can be a sign of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Check out other symptoms of IBS on WebMd to see if that could be the issue. Cutting out caffeine and gum chewing can help alleviate the symptoms.

happens to me too!
i always wondered.

It happens to me too.
I don't know why.

I think it's like how appatisers (sorry can't spell) at resturants also make you hungry. They wet your mouth, using saliva and your body thinks it's getting a meal when really you just wanted a bite!

I dont know, but my stomach will start to hurt, not growl.*
