Sore mouth from braces?!

Question:

Sore mouth from braces?

My son just got braces 2 days ago. They gave us some wax to use but its very stiff and not easy to form on the braces and most of the time we keep trying to push it on but it still falls off in his mouth or just sticks to our finger! His mouth and lips are now very swollen and he has sores inside of his jaws that hurt so badly he can barely talk or eat! Is there any other type of wax that is soft? Any tips on making it through this part of the process? Thanks

Answers:

When my daughter had braces she used the wax. We had to keep working with it to soften it up but finally got it. Have you tried holding it in palm of hand for few minutes before trying to mold it? If it keeps being too hard call and see if can get some more. I think they can make adjustments to them also that may help. May be a bad batch. We also used "orajel" and "orabase"on the places to numb it to the pain a little. Seemed to help her. Depending on his age it may be difficult for him to understand but it DOES get better and pretty soon if he does like my daughter did. Good luck. Hope he starts to have a better time of it.
