Should i get my tooth pulled out for 60 bucks or get a root canal for $900?!

Question:

Should i get my tooth pulled out for 60 bucks or get a root canal for $900?

I had really bad pain in my tooth and had a root canal in november. they put a temporary fill, the a permanent one a few weeks later. about 2 weeks ago, the tooth I had the root canal on cracked. Im not sure if it is worth going back to get it done again for 900 bucks. I checked to see if they would do it fo free or a reduced price since it had been less than 6 months but they would not do it.

Answers:

It sounds to me that you already had the root canal and since then the tooth has cracked, so if I have got that right you don't need another root canal but a crown. A crown (also called a cap) goes over the tooth and holds it all together. This would be recommendation after any root canal since the tooth will be more brittle with no nerve in it. If the tooth is broken severly (cracked down into the root) then you would need to have it extracted. Whether or not you have the extraction should depend on a couple of things. First, where is the tooth? If it is in the back on the top when you remove the tooth the others surrounding it might shift, and as a result your bite might change. Same in the bottom back, the teeth might shift (tip forward) but in addition the upper tooth might now keep growing down because there is nothing to stop it. Do you have dental insurance? If you do they might cover part of the cost of the crown because it is a new benefits year, if you indeed have the root canal finished and billed for last year. The cost for filling the space with a bridge or implant will be more costly than the crown procedure. But with any treatment, there is no guarantee of success. GOOD LUCK!
