Is it possible to get your dental caps earlier?!
Question:
Is it possible to get your dental caps earlier?
I have temps in now for 2 weeks, and they are making caps for me now...can't I get the caps earlier and not need the temps?
Just do it all at one time?

So, I would go in and they would take a mold...get the caps made and I go in for the fitting.

I realize it takes time...the question is:
Why cant they just take the mold and then in two weeks put the caps in without me needing the temps?

Re: Dental professional for 20 years
In addition to his/her response, the length of time necessary to do the crown in the lab is not the only and by no means the most predominant issue. The dentist depending on the type of crown you are putting in (porcelain on metal or just plain metal, i.e., gold, platinum, etc.) will have to remove some of the tooth structure not only to get a accurate mold but also to provide room for the new crown to fit, which in turn makes the tooth more sensitive to hot and cold, sweet and sour. So it is really two reasons: to give the lab time to make the new crown and to protect the prepared tooth.
