Need to know if my Dentist is honest?!

Question: I went took my wife to the Dentist yesterday for a consultation. She knew she had some cavities and after the X-Rays the Dentist tells us she needs 6 fillings total.

Apparently the cost of these is detemined by number of surfaces. 3 is the most expensive. She had 4 2's and 2 3's. I'd like to trust that she really needs all of this work done. I don't have a problem paying for it, if it's needed, but I'm a sceptic and Dentist have been known to screw people over.

Any advice?

Yes, if you're so worried, get a second opinion. But honestly, they're just fillings. And having more than one surface that needs to be filled is extremely common.

You know, in all professions people try to rip each other off. I just don't understand why denstits are never trusted. I've never been to an unethical dentist nor worked for one. The bad ones are far and few between.

Get a second opinion from a different dentist.

If your not convinced I would go to another dentist and see what they say 1st before commiting to this one.

Get a second opinion from another dentist, and if that is too expensive then you'll just have to trust your dentist...not all of them are out to screw people over. Better pay for the work then be too skeptical and pay for it later...hope this helps

HAVE ANOTHER DENTIST EXAMINE HER OR JUST GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. YOU NEVER WANT TO USE A PLACE THAT HAS A BAD REPUTATION FOR SCREWING PEOPLE OVER!

i think you should go and have a second opinion

If your not sure go and get a second opinion

You are always able to get a second opinion, however from my experience, when someone questions their first dentists diagnosis, and goes for a second opinion, they tend to believe whichever one gives the cheapest option, which may or may not be the best. Ask this dentist to show you exactly why he feels that she needs these fillings and then you should feel more at ease.

By the way, a 4+ surface is the most expensive filling.
