Can a temporary tooth cause damage to the rest of your teeth?!

Question: Im supposed to be getting a crown put on my upper left wisdom tooth. They gave me a temporary until the permenant tooth is ready but it feels like crap. It makes my mouth feel uneven and I cant chew my food properly. It also is making the rest of my teeth hurt as well. Im supposed to get my crown in about a week. Am I causing further damage by not having a properly fitted temporary tooth? Will my teeth shift? The Doctor tried very hard (5 times) to get the right fit and I thought it was fine when I walked out.

The best way to tell if your bite is right before you walk out of the dental office is to concentrate on how the teeth on the side of your mouth that wasn't worked on fit together. Sometimes when you are numb it can be tough to tell if you are biting normally. If the other teeth line up, your bite is ok.

The tooth that was worked on could be inflammed, and sitting in a different position than it normally does. This can change your bite and cause other teeth to be sore.

You won't do any damage to other teeth by waiting, other than some tenderness, but do mention to your dentist that your bite was never right. You won't want to have the permanent crown placed if you are still having discomfort.

Guess what...He didn't try hard enough...It's not fine...You need to see him again so that he can have you bite down on articulating paper so that he can detect where you are biting heavily. To make a long answer short, your bite is off. No, your teeth will not shift, it's just very uncomfortable. Your permanent crown should fit much better. If you can hold out a week, wait for that. If not, call him tomorrow.
