Tooth draining???!

Question: ok I have a dental appt. to get an tooth pulled. I am on antibiotics to clear the infection first.

BUT.....my absess started draining, and it tastes horrible!! But people tell me that it "should" drain, and it's a good thing.

Is that true?? Of course I can't call a medical professional till the morning....so anyone knows?

should I be worried? I am rinsing with warm salt water to get that horrible taste out too..

I am a dentist. Yes draining is good. It will taste as awful as it smells. It makes me even want to gag sometimes. The draing releases the pressure and rids the site of the infectious bacteria that has been trapped in the bone under the root. Also this will allow your dentist to numb you properly. Don't worry this is perfectly normal and it will all go away once the tooth is pulled.

you should feel instant relief of the pressure and pain, and keep rinsing with salt water. you will need most of the infection to be gone before they pull, so the pain will not be horrible....

G.L.

don't be worried. warm salt water will help. this is normal.

If your tooth drains or not doesn't really make a difference. Its not a good or bad thing. It just happens. It really does taste horrible! Just make sure that you finish your antibiotics and when you get your tooth out it will be all over with!
