Why did dentist say not to eat tomatoes for a week after tooth pulled? Reaction !

Question: I got a molar pulled about 5 days ago and was on antibiotics. They gave me a paper that said not to eat tomatoes or citrus. Was it because it would burn the healing gums or render the antibiotic ineffective or why? I had to stop the antibiotic due to diarrhea, so can I have my tomatoes and orange juice yet? BTW: no swelling, no bleeding, all is healing well where tooth was extracted.

Acids. Tomato juice and citrus juices are the most acidic which affects the scab which forms in the socket, or so that is what I was told when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. The acids can literally dissolve the scab (which never dries like a scab on your skin does, so it is easily dislodged, which is why they also said to avoid using a soda straw) and expose the underlying tissue which makes an infection a little more likely.

It has something to do with the acid in tomatoes and orange juice.

Don't stop taking your antibiotics. Take it to completion.
