Custom-made temporary crowns on front teeth seem too big. Can I change them bef!

Question:

Custom-made temporary crowns on front teeth seem too big. Can I change them before getting perm crowns made?

I am having restoration performed after severe bruxism. I had many crowns in the past, most of which are being replaced. Had three root canals, crown lengthening in the rear quadrants, and bite opened with 11 custom-made temporary crowns in the rear. Now I had the last six custom crowns put on my top front teeth. They seem really big. I know they will be somewhat bigger, but the actual crown is higher up on my gums now that the surrounding teeth. They just look too big for my smile.

The dentist already reduced these crowns before installing them. Can the permanent crowns be made "smaller" or "shorter" than these to look better, or will I need to have another set of temporary crowns made first? I really liked my front teeth until this procedure, and now my smile appearance really bothers me.

I go back in a week to check the fit and then do impressions etc to order the permanent crowns.

Answers:

This is YOUR mouth. YOU are paying for the job. You are entitled to have what you want in your mouth.

Talk to your dentist. Since the permanent crowns are not ordered yet, tell him exactly why you are uncomfortable with the ones he is choosing for you. Tell him that you feel like you are being pressured into accepting something you don't want.

Like I said, it is YOUR mouth that you have to live with. Think of the dentist as a service man who needs to perform a job to YOUR specifications. Just because they have a Doctorate in Dental medicine doesn't give them the right to foist off an inferior product on their customers. THEY have to please YOU. They would soon be out of business if they didn't, after all.

It is your right to expect to have these crowns made to your wishes, no matter what they might be. His job is to perform that service for you, for which you are paying a handsome fee. You are ENTITLED to get what you want.
