About orthodontal braces...?!

Question:

About orthodontal braces...?

I just got my braces on about 3 weeks ago. The doc gave me kit to take care of my braces along with a toothbrush with a pick, baby-bottle brush-like thing on the other end. Am I suppose to use that toothbrush? I have my own toothbrush that it wider with rubber bristles to massage the gums. It's those complicated ones. Should I use the brush my doc gave me or can I stick with my regular toothbrush? If I use my toothbrush, will it break my brackets off?

they also gave me some floss. Can I use regular floss?

Answers:

Yes it could damage your appliances/brackets.

Always, always, always, use a soft-bristled toothbrush. The tiny brush is called a proxabrush.

Make sure you use the proxabrush to not only clean between your teeth but also to brush behind the wire against your teeth a little. At your next visit ask them to show you how. Get a new toothbrush about once a month and a new proxabrush every few days to a week.

Brush at an angle along your gumline then in a regular way along the sides of your teeth and finally at an angle to get the tops of the brackets. That's what my ortho told me. Ask yours and see what they say.

I know it's a lot but a routine makes it a little easier.
