Getting my braces off? Tips?!

Question: I'm getting my braces taken off tomorrow, so of course the paranoia and stress is kicking in.
Will I have white spots under my brackets? Is it common for the orthodontist to change his/her mind? I really want them off. They told me at my previous appt. that I'd be getting them off this time, and it is in early morning so that they have time to make my retainer later on.

Any helpful advice from previous brace-wearers? Thanks so much, anything would help.

If you're worried about pain, take an ibuprofen about an hour before.

When I had my braces removed, the most unpleasant part was the scraping they had to do to get the cement off. It wasn't painful, it was just a dreadful sound. Take a discman with you just in case. If you have been brushing regularly, there shouldn't be any white spots.

You'll want to wash your mouth out with some water afterwards, but after that, there's really not much you need to do besides good oral care as usual.

Congrats and good luck! I remember that as such a fabulous day! My teeth felt so smooth and slippery after, and I was grinning like an idiot for the rest of the day.

I never had any dark spots or stain from my braces and I have a real sweet tooth. If the orthodontist said they were coming off today, he won't change his mind. It feels so good to get them off you will love it.

I had braces before too and it didn't hurt me at all because I took the whole "No Candy" rule really seriously. It will hurt if you have cavities.
P.S. My braces were really thin too, so it made the proccess easier. :)

Well, b4 you go to the dentist [or orthadonest,] take a hot bath while watching a movie [maybe on a DVD player.] Just to help get rid of stress and nervousness. Then, the day after maybe 7:00 Am or 6:30 AM watch another movie while you in the tub. Then you'll be fine and go to take the braces off.

They don't usually change their minds. I didn't have white spots when they were removed. It's not that bad. I'm a 'baby' about that kind of stuff and I did ok.

My goodness! Don't worry! The dentist removes all the white stuff so your teeth will look like new!

Don't chew gum or anything difficult to chew for a while so that your teeth don't become crooked. I had braces for 2 1/2 years back in the day...I was so happy to get them off and it was painless.

Good luck! You'll be happy!!

I got mine off last week just relax and listen to the doctor it will be fine! :)

Just make sure you wear your retainer. That is the most important thing. It will feel weird at first when they take them off but you will be very happy! I highly doubt you will have discolored teeth underneath the brackets. Congratulations!
