Wisdom teeth?!

Question:

Wisdom teeth?

I am so scared of the dentist. I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled out and right now I am freaking out and almost to the point of crying. I have a very negative pain tolerance and I HATE needles. Does anybody have anything comforting to tell me about getting wisdom teeth pulled or what it's like?

Answers:

I am a skiddish myself when it comes to doctors & needles but no need to worry, if you get yourself too worked up before you go, the shot may not numb you like it should!!!! Ask them to numb the gums before you get the shot, that way you won't feel them give you the novacaine! I would tell you to go for the gas, but I have never had it so I won't give any advice on something I don't know, just what I do know from personal experience! If you have any, take a mild anti-anxiety med before you go, i.e. xanax, klonopin, valium, etc if not just remember you will be fine and you will feel alot better when those damn teeth are gone! more room and so on! I have had 3 pulled so far and it really was no big deal and mine were all infected & broke too! But all went smooth and quick! I did feel alot of pressure, which is so normal!! So don't freak when you feel a little pressure but if you feel pain, let the doctor know immediately!! He will numb you up some more! Which is great because it'll still be numb when you go home and you can just lounge or take a well deserved nap, since your anxiety has been through the roof!!! I go the 9th to get my last wisdom removed, thank goodness!! It is infected too, so you see, if yours aren't infected, have a cavity, rotten, chipped, impacted, rubbing your jaw bone, you have some of those to be glad you will never have because you ARE getting them removed! Also, if you have an ipod or anything like that with ear pieces/headphones, take it! Listening to something you like & makes you feel good will help you calm down and be able to relax, plus you won't have to hear the tooth come out, it does make a sound when they come out, sometimes you hear a crunching sound, which when I heard it, it freaked me out! If you don't have anything to take to listen to, ask them to turn up their elevator music for you or run the water. Most dentists are pretty understanding! Most!! So remember, RELAX, it will help you numb up better, think of all the problems you will not get once they are gone, take some music or ask them to make some noise as stated above and if possible, take something mild to calm you down and ask them to numb the area before they give you a shot! Hope I have helped! It really isn't as bad as you are thinking it is, been there done that! Good luck, though I have faith you will be ok!! :)
