Dentists???What can I do to stop clenching my teeth?!

Question:

Dentists???What can I do to stop clenching my teeth?

I clench my teeth during the night, and I also catch myself doing it during the day too. I have always done this, I am a naturally stressed out person, and I am taking medicine for anxiety. I have stress fractures on my teeth and I don't want to keep damaging my teeth, what can I do?

Answers:

Get a nightguard. There's two ways to go about it. The cheap way is to go to a sporting goods store and get a mouthguard that athletes use. Typically you dip the guard in boiling water for a few seconds, stick it in your mouth, and let it mold to your teeth. I've also seen similar ones in drugstores in the dental care aisle.

The more expensive way (and much better way), is to have your dentist take an impression of your teeth and have a guard made.

I went the cheap route for a while, then learned that my insurance would cover most of the cost of a professionally-made nightguard so I got one made. Fits much better and works much better, too.
