I'm worried about getting braces.?!

Question: I've always known that I need braces, but the other day I went to the dentist and they sent a letter off to the orthodontist & i'll be going there soon. I later got some leaflets posted to my house about getting braces, wich kindof freaked me out. Your gums can bleed, you can get nasty stains on your teath etc.

Also, I heard that the older you are when you get braces, the longer you'll need them in. Im 14 years old and I dont know what to expect, having braces for like-3 years?

So my question is basically asking what it's like to have braces, and am I overreacting?

Ps: My teath are generally straight apart from my two front teath which point inwards slightly.

There's nothing to worry about really. Your gums bleeding and your teeth getting stain ONLY happens if you don't take proper care of your teeth while you have braces. Remember to brush after every meal and floss at least once a day. Also, getting a waterpik and using a fluoride rinse isn't a bad idea. The thing about getting them when you're older really only applies to adults over 18, since you are still growing, it is relatively easy for your teeth to move still, as you grow older and your bone hardens it is more difficult to move teeth. You prob. only need braces for like 2 years not 3. Having braces is sometimes uncomfortable (like after you first get them on, and after each adjustment) but most of the time you forget they're even there :) You are definitely overreacting, it's really not that bad. Good luck!

I just got my braces off, at first when you get them on its gonna hurt after a while, but drink lots of cold water and it'll help. Your gonna have to keep your mouth open for a while at the ortho. place so prepare yourself cuz it can hurt after a while. they'll give you some wax to put on the rubber band hooks which i suggest you put on, unlike me i didn't and after a few days the hooks started making my top lip bleed. other than that good luck!

Don't worry! Those leaflets and stuff are just exaggerating to cover their backs. I had braces and my teeth are fine. I don't know ANYONE who has had scary stuff like that happen to them.

I don't know how long you will have to have yours for but let me tell you it is DEFINITELY worth it.

don't worry. it will help your teeth a whole lot. and it wont hurt. its nothing to be scared of. i had braces too. Its going to pay off once you have them off and your teeth are straight and great.

:)

The stains and bleeding are from improperly brushing your teeth. Your orthodontist will teach you how to take care of them properly.

Once they're on, for the most part, you'll forget they're there. Write down your questions and ask your orthodontist or his hygienist your questions and you'll feel better.

The unknown is scary. You'll probably feel better once you have answers to your questions and you'll find that it isn't that big of a deal after all.

Don't worry too much about getting braces. I used to have them and it's really not that bad. The only part that is discomforting is after you first get them on or tightened. About 20 minutes before you get them on, take a pain reliever like Tylenol and your mouth won't be as sore afterward. However, your gums may still be sore later on in the week so stick to soft foods for the first couple of days. Whenever you go to have your braces tighted (which is every month and a half to two months), your mouth should eventually get used to it and you shouldn't be as sore afterward. Good luck! And remember, it may not be that fun to have braces, but in the long run, they're gonna make your smile beautiful!

dont be worried think of your beatiful results after braces :) dont worry !!!!!
