Do Dental Hygienists have to buy malpractice insurance?!

Question:

Do Dental Hygienists have to buy malpractice insurance?

Answers:

As a hygienist I most certainly do have my own policy, but to my knowledge it is not a requirement. The cost is fairly low (about $75.00) per year for a considerable amount of coverage. Most dental offices carry malpractice that covers them and their employees but I personally wouldn't feel OK worrying if the bill got paid on time and the limits of the policy were high enough to cover legal expenses. It is a small amount of money to protect myself. The best policy is to never put yourself in a situation to need it.
