Molar Bands!!!!?!


Question: The side of my molar bands that are facing the inside of my mouth (towards my tounge) have little curved things coming out of them and its hurting my tounge, ALOT!! What are they there for and what can I do to stop them from hurting my tounge?

They are called Lingual cleats. They are soemtimes used to attach rubberbands to if you have a crossbite. If not, they will prob. never use them so you can ask the ortho to sand them down next time, until then (and also if they are unable to) use wax to cover them, or try to push them down into the band more. That's what I did. Eventually you get used to them anyway, I still have them. Good luck!

Those are seating lugs that help us place the bands. Most people don't have a problem with them, but some people (like you) really don't adapt. You can ask your ortho to grind them off at your next appointment. It doesn't hurt at all and then your tongue won't be bothered by them anymore.

i had those and they sucked! what you should do is put some wax on tem until you can get an appointment, then tell your ortho person they wil probably get rid of them! good luck!
