Has anyone been awake when having their wisdom teeth removed?!

Question:

Has anyone been awake when having their wisdom teeth removed?

I am having the first of two wisdom teeth out saturday. My dentist will not knock me out (which isn't necessarily bad) and is doing one tooth at a time. Everyone I have talked to says they were put under and all were done at the same time. Has anyone been awake? Or had one tooth at a time removed? If so, please share stories, advice, etc.

Answers:

I was awake for the extraction of my four wisdom teeth. It was not bad. The worst part of the entire experience is some crackle noises, they seem worse than they really are because they are working by your ear. :} My wisdom teeth were fused into the bone horizontally. So they had to cut them out. It sounds horrible but realistically it was better than dealing with the aches caused by the teeth them selves. It is actually the patients choice if you want to be put under, or use nitrous oxide (gas) or just your local anesthetic. Most people don't want to be awake for the procedure, but I wanted to be awake! Since this sort of stuff intrigues me! So if you are going to be awake, I recommend that you take head phones with you and your favorite music then just stay open wide :}
Also plan your meals in advance, since you will need to avoid small items like rice (that can get stuck in the wound). You will not be able to use straws, and will have limited opening for a few days. So if you plan ahead it will make the transition a bit easier for you.
