ok my dad just got his insurance packet in and i have to get braces.
1. does it hurt?
2. What colors look best?
3. headgear?
4.retainers?
5.foods?
6.going to school?

Braces..I had them for 4 years..
It hurts when they put them on (like the sides of your cheeks will be a bit little raw and your teeth will probably be sore from them just being tightened), but just take an aspirin, pop in a movie and relax. Eat soft foods or soups until your teeth feel better. When they tighten them...they hurt but its very little pain.
Colors...I never got colors..I thought they looked worse than just regular. When they have colors they seem to be more noticable.
Headgear...I had a very bad overbite and I have an underbite and I never had to wear headgear. And if you do, only wear it at night.
Retainers....are easy..I only wear them at night..no one knows..they are easy to keep clean. All you need (sounds gross) but all you need is the Efferdent tablets..read the side of the box its way easy.
Foods.....Nothing TOO hard..like dont be bitting down on jolly ranchers or ice. They pop your brackets off. They told me not to drink soda or chew on gum..I did and it was fine.
Going to school...Kids understand most of the time. If they dont ..you should not associate with them. After awhile its like you dont even have braces. You will be fine maybe even get days off of school.
