GO PLEASE, speaking from experience. The longer you wait the worse it gets, honest. I put off cavities, and actuualy just had to get 2 root canals done, and they were so badly infected, antiv=biotics werent clearing them up, that I wouldnt numb, my whole mouth but the infected teeth were numb. So I felt everything. I about shot through the roof once they hit the nerves. It was the worst pain I have ever felt. So if you have cavities, please, please get them filled. Cavities are not painful and are quick procedures, if caught soon enough, but if you put it off like me, thats when you have problems, and they have to do major work. And like I said, I couldnt be numb all the way, so I felt EVERYTHING, not fun.

You should ignore that trepidation and get yourself down to the dentist's office!! There's just a little bit of pain when he's deadening your gums and then you won't feel a thing. If you don't, then you're reaeeeeelly going to know some pain when that cavity flares up in the middle of the night.

We all feel just like you do about the dentist but beleive me, you'll change your mind after a baaaaad toothache.

PS....they generally happen on the weekend when a dentist can't be found!!

Well, try to find a dentist who uses laughing gas. You're not going to be asleep, but you'll be relaxed.

Before you get a shot, the dentist will numb your gums with something that he puts on a cotton-swab. You can hardly feel the needle and it is very tolerable.

Do some research: Some dentists offer conscious oral sedation, IV sedation, and--or nitrous oxide. All of the above options are designed to help the very frightened patient endure his/her dental treatment.

Age may be a question concerning sedation, in this case you may want to visit a Pedodontist. A Pedodontist is a dentist that treats only patients under 18 years old and many of them offer oral sedation.

First make an appointment for an exam. allow the dentist to make a treatment plan outlining all the work you will need. Then you can request a consultation regarding this treatment.
Options to help you deal with your fear can be addressed at that time.

There are many dentists who treat very frightened patients and are very good at easing those patients into treatment and creating a non-fearful patient as far as future treatment is concerned. Just make sure you do some research. Call several offices and ask how they handle fearful patients. Make sure you like and trust the dentist you choose.

You will find after a few good experiences in the chair that you will lose most of your fear and be able to handle future dental appointments with ease.

Hope this helps.

WELL, put it this way.. dont go to the dentist... wait till your teeth falls and then you can really regret not going to the dentist
