Really nervous, help?!

Question: hey guys. I'm 14 years old and my dentist said I'm going to need a root canal on my lower left tooth. I'm scared because I heard they really hurt. He did say that he would numb my tooth so it won't hurt. Does it hurt or not? How long does it take? Thanks guys.

Whoa, thanks for an easy one...(1) It doesn't hurt during the procedure..(2) there will be some "slight" discomfort afterward and if you follow the DDS instructions, the discomfort will indeed be slight and be done with in about three day's..(3) The procedure takes, in most cases, no more than an hour, start to finish....The key to discomfort after the procedure is as I said above..follow the DDS instruction. Good luck and I wish you well.

I had one done last year on my lower left tooth. The only thing that hurt was the shot to numb things. It didnt hurt at all afterward. The tooth will stay sensitive, and a bit discolored but other then then that it was a breeze and it only took about an hour. No worries.

I had one not too long ago. I went to a specialist vs my regular dentist. (an Endodontist) Anyway, it wasn't nearly as bad as all the rumors I'd heard. It took two visits of about 40 min. each for mine. I guess that can vary depending on how many canals etc. I really didn't think it was bad at all. Relax and you'll be done before you know it. Take your ipod if you have one and listen to your own music instead of the usual dental office stuff.

Not to worry, When he's done the nerve is gone so you don't feel anything,
