What do braces feel like?!

Question:

What do braces feel like?

First of all, I heard it's better to get them done sooner rather than later because as you get older, it'll be easier for you and also with bite.
And also I want to know how much braces cost. I also heard you can apply for MediCare? I'm not sure...
But it's not my parents idea, it's actually mine. I really want nice, straight, white teeth. So I want braces. Call me crazy, but that's what I want.

Oh, and what does it feel like when you're at the dentist office? I mean directly getting it done? Do they put you asleep or do they just let you bare with the pain?

Okay so I just got braces on my teeth (upper AND lower) a month ago. The actual procedure was painless. It was just more of an annoyance as you have your mouth open for ages and they puff air onto your teeth etc as the tooth really needs to be dry before they can attach the bracket so it means that feeling where you can feel all of your saliva building up in your mouth and have to use their sucky thing to get rid of it rather than closing your mouth and swallowing!! That's the worst. When the braces are finally on it feel really really weird. You might find that your teeth don't close properly (that is if you're getting them on both sets) as the top teeth bang off the bottom brace. For about a week my teeth hurt like hell and I could eat properly and every now and then I'd bang my teeth together accidently and I'd get this shooting pain. I hated it and I got alot of sore in my gums from the brackets and wires. You will find that your lips might catch on the brace when you're smiling and trying to keep your lips closed!!

That was all the bad stuff. I suppose to be honest for the first week I felt like crap and was really upset by much it affected my life and the way I ate and spoke etc. Now I have them on a month and I just got them tightened again. I was told to expect pain or tenderness at the tightening but you know what.....nothing! Unreal! I now don't notice my braces. If the wire sticks out a bit far at the end it hurts but I go back and get them to snip it off but as far as pain goes I have none now. Also, I still can't bite down with my front teeth on stuff so I'm having to watch what I eat and cut things up so I can chew with my back teeth but because the teeth move so quickly with braces I now can close my teeth together.

Just wanted to give you a completely honest opinion and one that was recent!
