Question: I am a dentist. Yes this is normal. Braces are very painful at first for many people. I experienced it myself. The main reason for this it at first your teeth are moving very rapidly to ideal location. During the in-between stages your teeth do not touch right and your bite is all screwed up. This can aggravate jaw pain (TMJ pain or TMD), and can cause you to grind your teeth at night. Just give it time and everything will calm down. It is part of the price you pay to have beautiful straight teeth. Take a few advil and it will help ease the pain.

Ya, my jaw killed, coz they actually had to resize my overbite. Is that by any chance the stage you're at?
And don't worry, your teeth will CANE eventually. I could fit two $2 coins in the gap in my front teeth, and it close in two days. Yep, ouch... but they work, that's the main thing!
Your teeth will look great when they come off! Just make sure you really brush them so they don't stain :)
