Are whitening strips harmful in the long run? also, if they "deep clean&quo!

Question:

Are whitening strips harmful in the long run? also, if they "deep clean" why do they only last so long?

thinking about using the products but not too sure.

will it weaken the teeth or anything?

Answers:

The reagents in teeth whitening solutions/strips don't actually "clean" your teeth. Rather, they leach out the white/enamel that is stored below the sub-surface of a tooth; the more product you use, the more that is drawn out to the surface. You may notice an increased sensitivity as a direct result. Once you stop using, the coloring migrates back towards the tooth interior.

Though not permanently harmful, this is an unstable state for a tooth and typically not recommended by dentists. Of course, there is huge money to be made in the business, so once they give you their meager warning (at best), they will almost always comply with your whitening request.
