Braces...retiring???!

Question: Well I've had braces for about 4 months. Im only suppose to be wearing then for about 9-12 months. I havent snapped any wires and i've been doing very well with them. On Tuesday i had an appointment. My dentist checked my teeth and said they look good. He said he's not tightening them this month and said 'we're retiring, ill see u in a few weeks'....? I honestly dont no wat that means...why didnt he bother tightening my braces?!?!?!

that means you're slowing down and your teeth are becoming straighter and doesnt need constant heavy pulling

Mabe he is old and is going to retire...?

he is going to check them hes leaving them alone

He is not doing anything on your braces for now. He is going to leave it and see what happens next month. Maybe he thought it is good enough to do anything!?

Most likely felt the progress that's been made is looking good and couldn't justify tightening them. I'm sure if he feels the need to next month then he will, I wouldn't worry about anything though.

The reason why people where braces so long is because of osteoclasts (break down bone) and osteoblasts (build up bone). The two need to be equal.... too many osteoclasts will cause an increase in the breakdown of bone. If the teeth are moved too fast, bone is being broken down faster in the direction of tooth movement than it is being built up behind (where the tooth used to be). You may be moving a little bit ahead of schedule and he wants to give you a little more time to build up some bone to keep those teeth stable.
