I would call the dentist and let him know you are in serious pain. He will either prescribe something or give you more ideas on what would help.
you can use a thing called oragel. it comes in gel form and in a swab, it acts like a numbing agent, and works nearly instantly for me. although it does leave somewhat of a bad taste in your mouth
