Crest Whitestrips, are they supposed to hurt?!

Question: I saw crest whitestrips recommended so i decided to give them a go. I have used them twice a day for the last four days and i can definitely see my teeth getting whiter! the only problem is, during the time i am not using them, my front bottom teeth really really hurt and randomly ache if i let the cold get to them. it doesn't last long but its a horrible unpleasant feeling. is this bad? should i stop using them?

A lot of people experience sensitivity in their teeth while they are using whitening products, especially teenagers. This sensitivity is very unpleasant, but normally goes completely away about 2 weeks after you stop using any whitening products. The enamel is not being damaged, but teenagers and other young people have larger nerves inside their teeth which are more sensitive to the peroxide that whitens your teeth. You have to ask yourself if the pain is really worth it.

As you get older, the nerves inside your teeth get smaller, which is why older adults are not usually as sensitive to whitening products. FYI, the American Dental Association doesn't recommend bleaching teeth on anyone younger than 16 for this reason.

maybe your teeth are sensitive.

You may be sensitive to the whitening effects of the strips. You should switch to a whitening toothpaste for sensitive teeth and skip these strips, which may be weakening your enamel and causing your sensitivity.

no there not suppose to hurt. maybe your teeth are just really sensitive.

you should ask your dentist or something. i used them before and they didnt feel like that, they're not supposed to.

no keep using them as long as you can. its very common for your teeth to be sensitive with any kind of bleaching product, try taking an ibproufen(sp) it should help a little but it wont make it go away. the longer and more consistant you use them the better they will work.
:]

they tingle qyt alryt esp if your using a whitening toothpaste at the same time...shld be one or the oda at a time..and for the time youre usin the strips, avoid foods at extreme temps...dont think you shld stop em but if problems persist though, consult your dentist ;-)

This is normal. It happened to me too, and I was disappointed because they were working so well. Our teeth are just sensitive, and you can try cutting back from doing it twice a day to just one time, and if that's not enough, do it every other day for awhile. The sensitivity usually goes away if you give your teeth a break.

A lot of people have sensitive teeth, and do not know it until they use a whitening product. The reason is because the enamel is thin, or wearing away. Enamel is the outer layer of the teeth that protects against sensitivity and decay. The feeling won't ever stop as long as you continue to bleach, but using a neutralizing fluoride rinse may help- ACT is a great one to use! Or you can get a professional strength fluoride from your dentist. Also brush with a toothpaste made for sensitive teeth (Crest sensitivity, Sensodyne), and use lukewarm water.
