2 year old with teeth problems??!

Question:

2 year old with teeth problems??

My daughter is 21/2 and has just had cold sores in her mouth. She has calcification (tarter build-up) on her 2 top front teeth and bleeding gums. We brush her teeth daily. Her bottom teeth at the front have come up crooked. At 21/2 she is just 11kg and has only put on a kg in 12 months - she still wears a size 1. Her speech is above average. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong??

Answers:

You should take her in for a dental visit. My son had tartar which I removed (I'm a hygienist) but once it is there you cannot brush it off because it is hard like cement. That may be causing the bleeding and it should go away once it is removed. Her teeth may just be coming up a bit crooked, unless she uses a pacifier or sucks on something else like a finger which may be causing them to shift. This does not mean her adult teeth will do this. If I understand correctly she weighs about 24 1/2 pounds, and my son is 3 1/2 and weighs 33 pounds, so her weight doesn't seem low to me. She may just be a petite girl!Good luck
