My sister has an underbite?!

Question: it runs in the family my uncle has it, but back to my question. She's six right now and a lot of her teeth have fallen out our old dentist says she'll need braces but our new one didn't mention anything about it! does she need braces? and if she does when will she need them? because it doesn't make sense to put braces on baby teeth right?

When someone has an underbite like your sister, she may benefit from some early orthodontic treatment, but not necessarily braces. Sometimes there are devices little kids can wear to help redirect the way their jaws are growing, but they have to be treated when they're pretty young. For some of these kids, this early treatment will prevent them needing jaw surgery as adults.

It would be a good idea to have your parents take her to an orthodontist now for an evaluation. The ortho may just want to monitor her, but this sort of thing can be treated well early, then she hopefully won't have to grow up looking different from all the other kids. The initial evaluation should be free, and be sure you go to an orthodontist, not a regular dentist. This is a very complex problem to treat, and you want your sister to see someone who has lots of training in this sort of thing.

i would wait until she starts middle school. because my best friend got braces when she was in 2nd grade and now we are about to go into high school and she has to get them again because her teeth weren't fully grown adult teeth when she got them. I think your old dentist just wanted your money. And no it doest make sense to put braces on baby teeth

Yes she will need braces, I work for a dental insurance company in Nevada, and we dont cover Braces until age 10 - once all of her baby teeth have come out. She should get an evaluation from an orthodontist for braces. Check with your insurance company and see when the ortho benefit starts. with us it is age 10
