Why do teeth turn yellow as opposed to other colors?!

Question: Why do teeth turn yellow instead of...I dunno purple or blue when you have not had a whitening in a while. I always wondered this!lol I know it sounds silly but...I have seen people who have greyish colored teeth but it is because they smoked. But why, for most, yellow?

Along with the previous answerers, I have to say it's because of what you eat, drink, or smoke wearing away the enamel and some particles of the object in question sticking to the enamel. But consider also that teeth "turn" yellow for the same reason a sunny sky is blue; it's the visible color that's reflected back to your eyes.

I don't know either, but I'm guessing it's from the foods you consume. Coffee, tea, and even drinks like coke would stain your teeth yellow. Also if you ate certain 'yellow' food like curry, it causes a stain too.

One thing, anybody teeth is yellow is because of smoking or just not brushing them correctly that can cause alot of gum disease. Purple, if you eating blue berries, or some coloring food or just eating something that can turns your tongue in different colors. Brown or just greyish, they are smoking or just bruishing their gum and not being careful what they are putting in their mouth. Keeping teeth white and healthy is a great thing because you don't have to worry about someone saying that your teeth isn't white. Eating healthy like fruit and vegetable.
